Simmy's Fall Semester Tuition

Donation protected
Update:

Hello all! I want to start off by thanking all of you who have donated and/or shared the fundraiser. Your graciousness towards Simmy and this fundraiser for her is the reason we have raised so much already. I cannot express enough gratitude and am truly so grateful for the support.

Though we have raised a lot of money, we have yet to reach our goal which meant that Simmy could not return to school for the spring semester, BUT I will continue to fight and hopefully get her back in school for the fall semester. She is currently still living at the same shelter and has been immensely struggling with her mental health, understandably so. Her current living circumstances constantly put her in dangerous situations, and I am really trying to get her back to school and help her find somewhere safe to live. I ask that you consider sharing this fundraiser and donating if you can! We are so close to the goal, and I believe that we can reach it! Below I will leave the details regarding Simmy and her story. If you have any questions, please contact me via email!

"Simmy Kifletsion is an Eritrean-American transgender woman. She is currently a student at the University of Colorado Boulder and is studying Choral Music Education. Simmy is very passionate about singing and teaching and has aspirations to become a choral conductor one day, but her educational plans have been put to a halt due to difficulties regarding her financial and living situation.

During her senior year of high school, she came out as a transgender woman, which caused immediate tension in her very traditional orthodox Christian household. Her bio family immediately started ambushing her with unexpected exorcisms, and emotional and verbal abuse in an effort to make her “change.” Due to concerns for her safety, she ran away from home and started living with friends of hers and spent the rest of her time moving around from home to home. In August of 2022, she started school at CU and struggled because she had to work overnight shifts in order to afford to attend school in the first place. Even with all her efforts to work full-time overnight and go to school during the day, she could not make enough money to cover her financial needs regarding tuition. Since Simmy owed the school a large sum, she could not enroll in the 2022 spring semester for classes. Simmy was alone, broke, and struggling with her mental health. Now she is currently living in a homeless shelter because she has nowhere else to go and working as a server in a nearby restaurant.

My goal is to get our beautiful Simmy back in school. She is incredibly talented and the most hardworking individual I know. Life just has not been fair to her and I want to make an effort to get her life moving in the right direction. Just like everyone else, she deserves to go to school and follow her dreams of becoming a music teacher. My goal is to raise money to get her back in school for the 2023 spring semester. I would love your support in raising money to get the money she owes to CU paid off so that she is eligible to enroll in classes and so that she can attend school in the spring and live in a dorm on campus and have somewhere to live that is not a homeless shelter. Any remaining funds would be greatly appreciated to put towards her spring semester for tuition, housing, and food.

Anything is appreciated and even a share goes a long way!"
