It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my Dad, husband, brother & uncle Silvanus Obonyo, who passed away on Saturday, 23rd May 2026 in London, United Kingdom.
If you ever had the chance to meet Silvanus, you were always met with his bright smile, and he was always welcoming. If you ever passed by the house, he always wanted to offer you a drink and get you to sit down so he could find out more about what you did or your thoughts on certain topics.
If he weren’t at home, you probably would have bumped into him while he was out on his walks or his random trips around London that he would go on daily to stay fit, but amongst everything else, Silvanus was a caring and loving family man and friend to so many people.
Silvanus was not always the loudest in the room, but always took an interest in everyone & everything and has left a lasting impression on a large number of people!
Arriving in London from Kenya in the early 1960’s, Silvanus became one of the main pillars of the Kenyan community in the diaspora in London and always tried to be a point of support and advice for anyone who came over.
But Silvanus's main love was always the motherland of Africa, and Kenya in particular; you could never get far into a conversation before Silvanus brought up a fun fact about Kenya, such as reminding you that the tea that you were drinking came from Kenya.
And it’s that love of Kenya, that as a family we want to honour one of Silvanus final wishes, which was to be buried in his ancestral home in Ugunja, Siaya County, Kenya.
We are currently working with the funeral home to finalise arrangements and begin the process of bringing him home to Kenya for burial so that his family and loved ones can lay him to rest.
During this difficult time, we are humbly asking for your support to help cover:
- Funeral home expenses in the UK
- Transportation & repatriation of his body to Kenya
- Funeral & burial arrangements in Kenya
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference to our family during this painful time.
We are truly grateful for your love, support, and kindness. Thank You.
