Hello! If you don't know, my name is Atlas Kessinger, and I am a senior Musical Theatre Major at Wright State University. I am excited to announce my fourth directed production in the Jubilee Directing Lab, Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson. Silent Sky documents the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, the astronomer ahead of her time. It is 1900, and Henrietta has the opportunity to work at Harvard University as a human computer, one of Dr. Edward Pickering’s “harem,” mapping the stars but receiving no scientific credit. However, Henrietta will not be dissuaded and begins the process of recording the changes in Cepheid stars—a scientific discovery that has a profound and lasting impact on the field of astronomy. This play highlights a very important woman in our history who is not a household name but changed the history of astronomy all the same. I fell in love with this play during a one-act competition, and Henrietta's impact has stuck with me as well. Women of history often get overlooked, and this is a play that tells her story in an entertaining and extremely thoughtful way. The rights for the play are 564 dollars with shipping costs, props, and costumes as well. Any donation at all is really appreciated, and if you cannot donate, it would be greatly appreciated to share this GoFundMe with others. Thank you so much for your consideration and support, and go women in STEM!!!!
