On Monday, March 11th, Silas Wood (10) was taken to the doctor for what was thought to be a complication of Strep throat. Upon assessment from the doctor Silas was flown from his SW Kansas home of Satanta to Wichita to a hospital that could care for him better. Once he got to Wichita doctors quickly decided to put Silas on a helicopter to Children's Mercy in Kansas City. After a few days and several tests, doctors did a biopsy on a mass that was growing in his throat. Pathology came back and Silas has rhabdomyosarcoma which is a malignant cancer. Today Silas is undergoing a PET scan to see if the cancer has spread to other parts of his body. He will also be undergoing a bone marrow biopsy and they will install a port for chemotherapy and bloodwork. At this point, surgery is not an option as Doctors don't think they can remove the whole tumor. They will begin Chemotherapy and radiation this week. Micah and Bethany Wood are SIlas's parents, he also has 4 sisters back home in Satanta. The tumor is pushing on Silas's vocal cords which makes it hard for him to be understood, other than that Silas is in good spirits and has been virtually pain-free. We covet your prayers for complete healing! We will know more about treatment and what that will look like this week, however, there will be costs associated with this treatment, food, some lodging, and Fuel driving back and forth from Satanta to KC. Thank you for supporting this awesome family! Micah and Bethany are humble people who never ask for help. All funds will be given to Micah and Bethany to assist them in this journey.
