Our hearts are broken for the Shubin family. Silas was the easiest, funnest person to be around. From the time he was little - he won us over with his cheerful warmth, his kind smile, and his tender strength. Loyal, sweet, joyful, kind....his life has had such an impact on so many of us who have known and loved him- both near and far, on both sides of the world.
From Erica: "Behind that smile, behind those eyes that danced with mischief and light, but you could still see the kindness. Those eyes held a pain he hid so well few knew it existed. A pain that he carried from a young age quietly. Silas was warring against himself. He battled, we battled. It still wasn’t enough. On April 10, 2026 our beautiful boy ended his life. We want to honor him, his life, HE matters, our family is changed forever, we won’t be the same but we won’t be the same because we loved deeply. Silas left fingerprints on each of our hearts and we wouldn’t want it any other way."
Jesus is described in Isaiah as a "man of sorrows, acquainted with grief." I know our Lord understands. He has been here every step of the way. The entire family is looking to Him moment by moment, as they navigate this difficult path that no one should have to take.
We want to help bear their burden, come up under the weight of all they are carrying, and walk with them. Finances are such a stress point with last minute travel, missed work/income, counseling, and so many unforeseen expenses - this fund is to help relieve at least a little of pressure. The outpouring of love and support from friends and the community during this unimaginably difficult time will have a huge impact on helping the Shubins navigate the days ahead. Please give as the Lord leads, and continue to lift up this family in prayer in the days ahead.
