Help Bring "Signals In Orbit" to Life: A Sapphic Sci-Fi Love Story

Signals In Orbit is my soon to be short film represents everything I’ve learned in my four years as a film student. It depicts a story about love, connection, and the courage to follow your heart.

Set in a retro-futuristic world, this sapphic sci-fi film follows Talia, a brilliant but isolated radio astronomer who has dedicated her life to an invention that could revolutionize space science. But when she loses all support for her project, Talia’s confidence crumbles, and with it, her dream.

Just when hope seems lost, Talia’s radio picks up one final transmission. Through the static, she hears Vega, a botanist lost in space, searching for a way home. As Talia and Vega communicate across the vast distance, their connection grows deeper, rekindling Talia’s passion for both her work and the kind of love she had long suppressed. But as mysterious forces threaten to sever their connection, Talia is faced with an impossible choice: move forward, or risk everything for a love that might be lost to the stars.

Signals In Orbit is a deeply personal story, one I am creating in collaboration with my partner and co-director, Emily Hester. While my film focuses on Talia’s journey, Emily is directing Lyra’s Discovery, which will tell Vega’s story, creating a beautiful duet of two star-crossed lovers separated by both space and circumstance.
