I was just selected as a trainer for this year's Colorado Extreme Mustang Makeover, and I couldn't be more thrilled! On February 6th, 2015, I will travel to Rock Springs, WY to pick up a randomly assigned wild mustang from the BLM holding facility. I have 100 days to gentle, earn trust, and train this 5 year old mare after which we will compete at the EMM competition.
The mission in this event is to be an ambassador for these amazing wild horses, and to increase awareness about their plight and adoptability. We sadly now have more mustangs in holding pens than we do in the wild. Instead of having these horses live their lives in fear, boredom, and loneliness in these facilities, I want to help showcase their amazing skills and adoptability to help mustangs find loving forever homes.
As many of those who know me are aware, I recently made the journey of moving from my hometown of Vancouver, WA to the great front range of Colorado, bringing very little possessions with me. I will need to fundraise for basic supplies as well as cost of care for this journey of caring for and training this mustang. That's where you come in!
Please join me in showcasing the brilliance and versalitity of the mustang by donating to ensure our success. I will be using my intuitive knowledge and experience with horses to work with this wild mare at liberty and free from training aids and restraints as much as possible. We'll be filming and photographing the journey each step of the way, so you can join us and follow the progress!
I won't know what she looks like or what her name shall be until I meet her for the first time on February 6th, but I do know what we'll need help with. Basic grooming supplies, a halter, medicine boots, salt & mineral blocks, farrier trims, boarding, trailering/travel gas expenses, possible vet care, hay, and shavings are some of the expenses involved in giving the best care and chance for success to this mustang.
