Support Sierra Leone’s U16 Paticipate in the AfroBasket 2025

As an Ambassador of the SLBF we seek help in financing the Sierra Leone’s U16 Basketball Team to compete at AfroBasket 2025!

This year marks a turning point in the history of basketball in Sierra Leone. For the very first time, our U16 boys have qualified to represent the country at the FIBA AfroBasket Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, from the 2nd to the 14th of September 2025.

Our U16 boys have earned their place at the prestigious FIBA AfroBasket Championship.

Against all odds, and without the facilities many of our competitors enjoy, these boys have written their names into history.

*Why This is Extraordinary*

Sierra Leone is the only country among the 12 qualified teams that does not have an indoor basketball facility. Despite this, our players worked through rain, heat, and countless limitations to secure qualification. Their success is a testament to their dedication, talent, and unbreakable spirit.

This moment is bigger than basketball. It is about national pride, youth empowerment, and showing the world that Sierra Leone, even with limited resources, can compete on Africa’s biggest stage.

*The Challenge We Face*

As a federation, we must be honest: we have not received any financial support from the Government of Sierra Leone, and at this point there is no clarity on whether such support will come.

We are grateful, however, to the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone, who have already stepped forward with $10,000. Their support is deeply appreciated.

But the total cost of preparation and participation stands at $45,000. This covers flights, accommodation, feeding, training, and tournament logistics. We still urgently need thirty-five thousand dollars to make this dream a reality.
