Help Sierra Get Gender-Affirming Surgery

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Sierra (she/her). Thank you for taking a moment to read my GoFundMe page.

Since coming out as a trans woman in 2023, I’ve felt more grounded and at home in my body than I ever have before. This journey started long before that however. The realizing came to me when I was watching the Adam Sandler film “Big Daddy” twenty years earlier. (You’ll have to ask me if you want what specific moment led me to this realization, hehe). For two decades I wasn’t able to get the medical care I needed due to fear of ostracization, uncertainty , and systemic obstacles. With better health care, the love of my friends and family, and support from the community, I’m moving forward with an important surgery and I’m reaching out to you for support!
I’m raising funds to help cover the expenses of my gender-affirming surgery, which is scheduled for early next year in the San Francisco Bay area. This medical care is essential to reduce the psychological distress that comes from the ongoing disconnect between my body and my lived identity. While many people are born into the ease of existing in a body that reflects who they know themselves to be, gender-affirming care helps bring that same ease, comfort, and congruence to trans folks like me.

This surgery will allow me to live in more peace, to be capable of holding more of the love people have for me in the community, and to bring a fuller self in my efforts to help this same community.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of my expected expenses:

• Direct medical care such as surgery, the hospital stay, anesthesiologist: $6,000 after insurance coverage
• Lodging near the surgical center for 1 month: approximately $3,000
• Travel expenses (to/from San Francisco Bay Area): approximately $800
• A portion of food and daily care for myself, my partner, and our friend (who will be acting as a caregiver): approximately $1,200

Even small donations make a huge difference:
$25 helps pay for a post-surgical prescription
• $50 can cover two days of meals during recovery, or a tank of gas to drive around the bay area to my appointments
• $100 goes toward housing for a night near the surgical center

If you aren’t in a position to give financially, I appreciate your stopping to hear my story. If you would like to share this campaign with others or simply send love as I prepare for this milestone, your generosity will be more than appreciated.

Photos and updates will be posted as I approach surgery, during recovery, and as I heal. I want to be open about the process—both to thank you and to help others who are considering this path to feel less alone.

This campaign comes at a difficult time for trans rights in America. There is growing political hostility toward transgender people’s access to medical care. As policies shift and protections erode, the window for accessing gender-affirming care without legal or financial threat is narrowing. That urgency weighs on me and others in the community. I am moving forward now because I am only certain that the opportunity to do this safely and legally is available right now.

If you’re someone who knows and loves me personally, or someone who simply believes in the right of all people to live comfortably in their bodies, thank you for being part of this with me.
