I’m raising funds to help cover the expenses of my surgery, which is scheduled for mid-February in the San Francisco Bay area. This medical care is essential to reduce the psychological distress that comes from the ongoing disconnect between my body and my lived identity. While many people are born into the ease of existing in a body that reflects who they know themselves to be, this surgery will help bring that same ease, comfort, and congruence to myself.

This surgery will allow me to live in more peace, to be capable of holding more of the love people have for me in the community, and to bring a fuller self in my efforts to help this same community.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of my expected expenses:

• Direct medical care such as surgery, the hospital stay, anesthesiologist: $6,000 after insurance coverage

• Lodging near the surgical center for 1 month: approximately $3,000

• Travel expenses (to/from San Francisco Bay Area): approximately $800

• A portion of food and daily care for myself, my partner, and our friend (who will be acting as a caregiver): approximately $1,200

Even small donations make a huge difference:

• $25 helps pay for a post-surgical prescription

• $50 can cover two days of meals during recovery, or a tank of gas to drive around the bay area to my appointments

• $100 goes toward housing for a night near the surgical center
