Gestern haben wir eine Straßenhündin in Sizilien gefunden. Sie war nicht einfach nur „unterwegs“ – sie war im Endstadium. Verletzt, abgemagert, voller Schmerzen. Wenn keiner hilft, wird sie sterben.

Ganz simpel, ganz bitter.

Dank dem Almagea Sanctuary – einer kleinen, unermüdlichen Auffangstation in Sizilien – haben wir sie gestern in eine Klinik nach Catania bringen können. Ohne diese Menschen wären wir aufgeschmissen gewesen.

Aber auch das Sanctuary selbst ist am Limit. Sie brauchen Hilfe.

### Was ist passiert?

Die Ärzte in Catania haben sie untersucht. Es steht fest: Sie braucht eine Operation. Der Klinikaufenthalt, die OP, die Medikamente und die Nachsorge werden ordentlich was kosten. Wir rechnen mit etwa 2.000 – 3.000 €. Die Erstaufnahme und Notfallversorgung allein liegen bei ca. 410 € – und die ist sofort fällig.

Ohne uns wäre sie in den nächsten Tagen wohl auf der Straße unter schlimmsten Schmerzen qualvoll alleine verendet.

### Warum wir keine Unterstützung bekommen

Hier ist die bittere Wahrheit: Wir bekommen keine Unterstützung vom Staat oder irgendwelchen Institutionen – obwohl Straßenhunde und -katzen eigentlich in der Verantwortung der Gemeinden liegen. In der Realität heißt das: Wer nicht selbst handelt, schaut weg. Und wer handelt, trägt die Last allein.

Das Almagea Sanctuary macht genau das – jeden Tag, mit leeren Händen und vollem Herzen. Sie retten, was zu retten ist. Aber sie können nicht alles allein stemmen.

Yesterday we found a female street dog in Sicily. She wasn't just "out and about" – she was in critical condition. Injured, emaciated, in severe pain.

If no one helps, she will die. Simple and bitter.

Thanks to Almagea Sanctuary – a small, tireless rescue shelter in Sicily – we were able to get her to a clinic in Catania yesterday. Without these people, we would have been helpless.

But the sanctuary itself is at its breaking point. They need help. If you can, please help us help! Together we are stronger!

### What happened?

The vets in Catania examined her. It is clear: She needs surgery. The hospital stay, the operation, medication and aftercare will cost a significant amount. We expect around €2,000 – 3,000. The emergency admission and initial care alone cost approx. €410 – and that is due immediately.

Without us, she would likely have died a agonizing death alone on the street in the coming days, in excruciating pain.

### Why we don't get any support

Here is the bitter truth: We receive no support from the state or any institutions – even though stray dogs and cats are technically the responsibility of the municipalities. In reality, this means: whoever doesn't act, looks away. And whoever acts, carries the burden alone.

Almagea Sanctuary does exactly that – every day, with empty hands and full hearts. They save what can be saved. But they cannot carry everything alone.
