"Sidetracked" Film Fundraiser
Donation protected
Dear friends, colleagues, students, neighbors, and community,
I was mid-way in the process of development and production of the film, Sidetracked, when COVID hit. My grant funding opportunities were deferred, and summer 2020 production delayed.
As the writer, I’ve used the time to develop the story and compete for and win several international film festival awards for the script. But now I lack funding to go forward.
This project began 13 years ago. And I haven’t given up. At that time, I first wrote about my husband Bill’s hitchhiking and train hopping adventures over 35,000 miles in the 70s and the hiking, camping, hitchhiking life we shared in the early 80s. These youthful experiences inspired me toward the freedom and unconventional life we have today, in part as yoga teachers.
Sidetracked, a character-driven drama about relationships and fulfillment set amidst human greed and goodness, is fictionalized, but based on our experience.
I know there are desperate needs at this time. But I hope you will find a place in your heart for this project. And for the arts that feed our souls with beauty, inspiration, enrichment, connection, delight, and passion.
Sidetracked:
*international award-winning script
* to be filmed on Vermont roadways and in Burlington with local actors and film crew
*a story about winning and losing love and freedom and the crazy things people do in pursuit of both
*an expose of 1970s and 80s gender and power in relationship that resonates today
*a youthful adventure in hitchhiking
*a tale of finding your true self
Sidetracked, the film, involves a full team of Vermont film crew and actors who are all onboard to move forward. We are stalled due to lack of resources.
PRODUCTION: MAY 15-31, 2021 (with a backup plan for Fall)
TOTAL BUDGET: $27,100
ALREADY SECURED: $14,800
PENDING ARTS GRANTS: $2,300
YOUR DONATIONS: $10,000, to reduce dependence on unpredictable grant awards
Send a drop - $5 = a meal for student film crew, Champlain College
Make a splash - $10 = gas for the borrowed 70s period car - remember the Pinto, Dodge Dart, Hornet!
Create a ripple - $25 = thrift store 70s period clothing or prop – bellbottoms, a tie-die peasant blouse or vinyl record!
Make a wave - $50 =location fee to local Burlington business – the iconic Nectar’s.
Fill the river - $100 = rental fee - van to transport crew and actors
Ride the ocean - $250 or more = lease fee - camera equipment for a day
Your donation, at any level, brings the Sidetracked film to the screen.
PREMIER: Highlight Burlington Festival – December 31, 2021
Help propel a project to completion that is dear to me and important. Sidetracked themes reflect the fragile human relationship and the sacrifices people make for each other.
Thank you for considering this request.
Your gift is greatly needed and appreciated.
