sicko (WIP) at 96 Festival
Donation protected
Hi!
I'm Ed, an early-career playwright ready to debut my new play "sicko", which is showing at Omnibus Theatre on Mon 23rd June as part of its LGBTQ+-led "96 Festival", in the Engine Room sidebar.
This play has been a year in the making, and previewing the first 60 minutes for an audience of industry guests is an incredible opportunity to get this project off the ground and begin to see it realised!
Whilst we'd planned for a full-length R&D for this showing, our Arts Council England funding application has sadly been unsuccessful, so we're fundraising for overhead costs to fund 2 days of rehearsal space and a nominal fee for our 6 actors and director, which will be evenly split, so as not to require people to work completely unpaid.
Tickets are now on sale at the Omnibus Theatre website and only cost £6, so any extra donations to this project are greatly appreciated:
To find out about the show please read below. My eternal thanks and gratitude,
Ed Cooke

When provocative installation artist Burton Shepard approaches children’s illustrator Amanda proposing a collaborative project about her father, she’s keen to tell his story. The good parts at least. Burton’s research, however, has uncovered a disturbing secret, and he has a very different artistic intention.
Ahead of opening night, the Shoebridge family gather for a birthday celebration, bringing with them old grievances and new suspicions. Meanwhile Burton’s collaborators must reckon with their own role in dramatising real events and people. A war to control the story is raging, but whose story is it to tell?
“sicko” is a twisty black comedy about the ethics of representing real-life figures in artistic works, and the legacy of Britain’s colonial history.
