Sickle Cell Mission Trip

Donation protected

My Why Mikayla and the reason I advocate for Sickle Cell.

I’ve always been an advocate for Mikayla.  But, In the small rural town of Rongo, in Kenya, East Africa, they don’t have anyone to advocate for them.  That’s why I’m returning to Kenya to provide families living with Sickle Cell with the tools, resources and education to advocate for themselves.

I believe we are all connected. Covid has taken a toll on the US while devastating our brothers and sisters throughout Mother Africa. I believe the best way to help yourself is to help others.

Your support can be life changing for a young girl with Sickle Cell in pain crisis and no where to turn.  Each one teach one.  I know first hand the difference this trip can make and that’s why I’m returning on my 2nd mission trip.

No contribution is too small.  These are uncertain times. But one thing is certain, the human spirit has no borders.

(Demitrea and students from the church in Kehancha village, Kenya, June 2018)

My name is Demitrea, I am the Parent to a 13 year old Sickle Cell Warrior, Mikayla. Since Mikayla was a baby she has been hospitalized over a hundred times, has had major surgery and is currently under advisement for a Bone Marrow Transplant once they find a blood donor match.

Determined to help others that are going through a similar situation but lacking resources, I am traveling to Kenya in September 2021 to assist patients and families affected by Sickle Cell Disease. Sickle Cell Disease is a blood disorder, primarily affecting people of color, that cause red blood cells to become misshapen and break down. With sickle cell disease, an inherited group of disorders, red blood cells contort into a sickle shape. The cells die early, leaving a shortage of healthy red blood cells. This can cause blood clots in the body which result in sever pain crisis.

Please support Sickle Cell Disease and this mission trip by donating and sharing our work.
