Help my mom rebuild her home
Donation protected
On Sunday, Oct. 16th, early morning in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, my mom's home/shop burned almost to the ground, caused by the fire that started from a shop a few doors down. It was a 2-story home where the first floor was the shop and the second floor was the residence. The roof and the second floor collapsed. Everything is destroyed. Luckily she was out of town at the time and no one was injured.
This is the second time that my mom has to go through such tragedy. The first was when the tsunami hit in 2004 which killed more than 100,000 people and destroyed many homes including hers.
My mom has been on her own since my father left in 2001 to marry another woman. Even when we were kids, things were not good. He was rarely present. She took over the business and worked hard to raise all her kids, all four of us, through that shop. She was, and still is, most definitely the strongest woman I have ever known.
The shop is called "Siang Malam", which translate to "Day and Night". The shop has been around since 1975. The shop used to be opened from 5am to 11pm. The shop is well known for its mixed ice drink, called "es campur" and its special noodle soup, called "mie kocok".
I can only imagine how broken she is to have go through two major disasters. It wasn’t just a home for her but it was also her source of income, her independence, her pride and her happiness. She loves what she does and she’s good at it. The community loves her. She’s always willing to help others whenever she can.
She doesn't have any insurance to help cover any costs of the repair. Insurance was unavailable to her due to the type and age of the building.
This fund will be used to help put in a new roof and second floor, replace necessary furnitures, chairs and tables for the shop, appliances, and supplies so she can have a place to live and restart her business as soon as possible.
