When I was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2016 I was extremely fortunate to have amazing support from my family and friends, as well as an incredible health plan. Not everyone is so fortunate. The back and forth to chemo, daily radiation and declining health made everything difficult from keeping track of the myriad of medications, office visits and just existing.
As an ongoing part of my recovery process, both physically and mentally, I am competing in an Ironman in May 2018 and would like to see if I can raise a few dollars to help support a local organization that supports those going through cancer treatment and the recovery process.
An Ironman event is a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bicycle ride and a 26.2 mile marathon run, unfortunately all taking place during the same day. A year ago I had no idea that I'd be giving this a shot and 18 months ago, during the darkest times of my treatment, it would have been a laughable idea.
The total distance for the day is 140.6 miles which is why I am asking for a donation of $1.40, or even $14.06 if you're feeling suitably flush. The Cancer Support Community ( www.cancersupport.net)
estimate that $500 will provide support to one cancer patient for a year.
