Help me get into my dream school

Donation protected
My name Mayamiko Bismarck and I am a Malawian. I am a  recent graduate from UWC ISAK Japan where I was pursuing my dream for the betterment of my country. I never forget the joy that I felt during my lunch on the 11th of March when my university advisor came to me telling me to check my email. I broke into tears as I had been accepted into my dream school and also my top choice university: Furman University.

I could not believe my eyes and the thought that all my hard work and effort had been rewarded in that one email. I was completely hopeful as I applied, only expecting the best outcome. Having been accepted, I did not even think twice about whether or not I would take the offer cause it is where I want to be. I will never stop thinking about what a great opportunity this is to me as my whole journey has been a miracle from the start. I will be forever grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity because it will pave more and more paths toward pursuing my dreams and the future I hope for my country.

Malawi is said to be one of the African countries highly struck by poverty and it bleeds my core. I have witnessed what life is like in some parts of my country, people living without basic necessities, for example, clean water supply. These experiences have fueled the burning desire I have to lead my country into development. As we all know, poverty is an issue that does get people’s attention yet there is no permanent solution to it. In my country poverty has lead to child marriages which is an issue close to my heart. Over the years, the rate of child marriages, mainly female, has increased dramatically. This creates an issue of inequality, which bleeds my core. As a woman, I feel I can do everything a man can do, so I should be fairly respected. By aiming to major in Business Administration, I hope to contribute to ending child marriage because I am tired of seeing my fellow agemates go through these practices. I want them to be empowered with education so that they may know their rights and fight for themselves. With the skills and expertise that I will attain at Furman University after completing my major, I want to establish an NGO that will collaborate with organizations like World Vision Malawi that are already working to counter child marriage.

As I am constantly grateful for the generous scholarship Furman University has given me, due to my family’s financial situation I am unable to cater to the remaining $3200  which is for transportation to the university ($1500) and the cost of acquiring health insurance ($1500). This also includes $200 as the fee for obtaining a US visa. Given that I am supposed to start this August, I am kindly seeking all donations that will help me accomplish this once in a lifetime journey. I look forward to withdrawing the donations before the 4th of July 2020 so as to allow me time to book the ticket and also acquire my visa in time.  For credibility, all the money will go to Ms. Tiffany Knight’s account. She is my university advisor and also an American citizen who has been supportive throughout my UWC journey towards my next step in pursuing my dreams and the future I hope for my country. Thank you very much for your love, kindness, and continuous support.
