Meet Shyrah and Makyla.
Shyrah, who just turned 13, is sweet, smart, fun loving, and she's passionate about drawing, painting, and videography. She's talented. She is an “A” student, studies hard, and has a heart for learning new things. She's also a yellow belt in Kung Fu, which she recently earned after 5 years of solid dedication.
Makyla is a gleeful and inquisitive four and a half year old who loves "JoJo Siwa" and wants to be Elsa from Frozen in her very own off Broadway production. I was impressed by her ability to sing all the right words while simultaneously dancing in sync with “Let It Go"! She is full of life, and brings joy to everyone.

Together they play like bff’s, argue like sisters, and spread happiness to anyone who meets them…and as of November 1st, 2020, they are also homeless.
Their mother, Kara, is a 32 year old single mother who loves her girls more than life itself. She has been tirelessly working to secure places for them to lay their heads each night. She is exhausted, made more so by the fact that she is currently fighting a potentially life threatening rare eye infection called Orbital Cellulitis.

She is exhausted, made more so by the fact that she is currently fighting a potentially life threatening rare eye infection called Orbital Cellulitis.
Kara has been unable to work a full time job after her second pregnancy greatly exacerbated a back injury she sustained during a violent fall into a concrete planter several years ago.
Kara, Shyrah, and new baby Makyla were invited into Kara's father's home while Kara underwent twice weekly physical therapy, regular Dr. visits, and physical rehabilitation.
Unfortunately, for over four years, she was never cleared to return to work. She did everything she could to rehabilitate her back, however, and made great progress. By the time she was well enough to start working again, and was offered the perfect job, COVID19 hit the world.
The offer was rescinded two days later as businesses started cutting their workforce everywhere. Covid also shut down her physical therapy and rehabilitation offices, resulting in a significant regression of her former progress.
Kara was devastated. Not only for her, but for her precious girls as well. She desperately wanted to get her health back, find a job, and get a place of their own.
Astonishingly, they lost their home suddenly amidst all of this. They were given two weeks to get a storage unit for their things, pack up everything else, and find someplace to go... all while Kara was still recovering from the recent diagnosis of orbital cellulitis.

She found a few places for them to stay, but there were no options for a place to LIVE. She hadn’t been able to work, except for the odd job for a friend’s business every now and then, so her ability to rent an apartment or house simply wasn't an option. Even if someone offered to co-sign, she still didn't have the money needed to sustain life for herself and the girls until she could heal, find a job, and collect a few paychecks.
Phone calls to the State have also been horribly disappointing. Repeated phrases like, "just no available options", "not enough funding", "I'll put you on the waiting list", "This is the worst possible time to be in your position," "I'm so sorry"...as Kara has poured into every state and local agency for assistance.
Shyrah continues to do her schoolwork from her school issued laptop, and helps her mom with watching her little sister. Kara fights to stay positive for her girls while doing whatever she can to also fight through her complicated health situation.

She's frightened, Shyrah and Makyla have seen it. They can't understand the depth of their mom's anguish, but they try to comfort her as she breaks down again in their presence, only because she has nowhere to go and let it all out, and it's been building.
My own heart breaks, and I want to do EVERYTHING for them, I want to for many reasons, but mostly because these are my sweet granddaughters, and Kara is my first born baby girl. We love them dearly, but their grandpa and I live in a 930 square foot condo, with our youngest daughter occupying the tiny second bedroom fitted more for an office than a bedroom. The offer of a few nights at a time on a worn down leather couch is temporary, at best. Sadly, we can't give these girls what we don't have.
I need your help.THEY need your help.
- What's needed:
(Kara was told that the only way she would be approved for a lease is if she could pay the whole lease up front.)
The six months will afford her time to heal, find a new job, secure childcare, and start a new life for she and her girls.
If you are unable to give, that's understandable, these are hard times, but please share this post with as many friends as you can. The more who see it, the better the chances are that Shyrah, Makyla, and Kara will have a home for Christmas.
(New Years)
- Say a prayer
