Hello, my name is Shyana Broughton and I am the founder of Our Mommie Village doula lactation and postpartum services, a NEW community organization that engages in supporting mothers of color and their babies during the childbirth experience.
I, like many others have been managing the new normal from home. Due to the pandemic, I have been juggling assisting my three children with virtual learning AND exploring options for income. I have been laid off from my work at a local school in Buffalo, NY since the start of the pandemic. Working a traditional full time job is difficult with my high need family because I am needed at home to assist them. Through the help of PathStone Enterprise I began Our Mommie Village as a non profit in November of 2020 and I am very proud of the progress thus far. I have been building this community resource and building a strong team ever since, from home, by computer. Recently, my youngest son accidently broke the screen and spilled his smoothie on my computer. He typically has a school issued iPad but misplaced his charger so we had to share my computer that day. I am heartbroken because my productivity is at a stand still.
I still have hope because I believe that the community will show up for Our Mommie Village by donating toward a new computer that serves the community of mothers even better than before. How can YOU help you ask? I invite you to donate here toward a new high functioning computer with case (and lock for my darling seven year old). All of the surplus will then go to prenatal and postpartum kits that include a book, teas, breastfeeding accessories, essential oils and many other items to make motherhood easier.
Getting a new computer would be AMAZING because I work day and night on perfecting how I do business for current and future moms and their babies. Conducting research, writing grants and making and KEEPING professional connections with important organizations and people in the community are all my focus. Having a computer that is equipped to handle all of what Our Mommie Village is responsible for would, create such a strong foundation by keeping things organized and functional. Our Mommie Village is growing and a new computer would make caring for our mothers so much easier. To continue the mission of Our Mommie Village, I need a new computer as soon as possible.
