With deep sadness I share that on November 11, 2020, Shunai, one of the beloved Twintastic Twins has transitioned to the realm of the ancestors. She will be missed deeply by her twin sister, her daughter, grandchildren and many friends across the world. This fundraiser is to help support the family during their difficult time as they prepare for Shunai's celebration of life memorial and funeral costs.
On behalf of Kolita and her family we thank you for your support.
Shunai (Sharon Scruggs) Ajanaku was born October 21, 1948, eleven minutes after her twin sister, Kolita, in Chicago Illinois. Their parents, Eugene and Thelma, were surprised, but elated. The twins are a well know entity on Chicago’s Southside where they grew up.
Shunai and her twin sister moved to Pennington, Alabama in December 2018 and adopted the peace and serenity of Tompkinsville, Alabama as their new home.
Shunai is the daughter of Eugene Scruggs and his wife, Thelma. Mr. Scruggs wanted his family to have a normal American life; he chose the U.S. national parks as the family’s vacation destination each year. The twins along with older brother, Eugene, grew used to the cross-country station wagon rides and enjoyed the full beauty of the American landscape. These trips established in the children a love of all things natural. Following college, the twins have lived in places as diverse as Washington DC, California, Belize, Central America, Jamaica, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Hilo, Hawaii, and Pennington, Alabama. What all of these places have in common is the natural beauty of place and people.
Shunai is the mother of two children. Ayikwei her first born, preceded her in death as did her parents, Eugene and Thelma Scruggs. Daughter, Ayida Honor (Lenon) of Utah are parents of her five grandchildren: Lenon,Avinash, Saidah, Samiyah, and James. In addition, she leaves to mourn her passing, her siblings, brother, Eugene Scruggs, Jr. (Cynthia) of Chicago; her devoted twin Sister, Kolita with whom she shared a home for a large portion of their lives outside the womb.
Shunai (Sharon Scruggs) Ajanaku was an educator with a passion for teaching young children - helping them to learn and grow. A multi-talented woman, Shunai was also cook and chef extraordinaire - a vegetarian – who delighted in creating new and innovative dishes for family and friends to try. Her specialty was creating amazing spicy vegetarian dishes and mixing tastes and textures. Besides her siblings she leaves a large extended family and friends both in the United States and abroad.
