Shumi's Funeral Arrangement
Donation protected
Four years ago, Mr. Shumi Uma Denboba, a resident of Atlanta, GA, was a talented, hardworking young Ethiopian who worked day and night to realize his American Dream. On February 2, 2018, Mr. Shumi was returning home after a long day of work. At around 11:00 pm, two men hit his car from behind. When he got out of the car to see the damage, the two men got out of their car, and one of them put a gun to his head. He fought back to save his life. But the second man shot him three times, and he fell. The two men disappeared with his car and wallet.
Although Mr. Shumi survived the accident, he could not stand or walk for a long time. He recovered after a while, but the damage to his spine was so bad that he could not easily find work. Four years ago, the young man helping others needed help himself. The ups and downs of life brought about by accident put him under severe stress. The injury he incurred adversely affected his physical and psychological health. As a result, he was not able to support himself financially and became homeless.
About a year ago, he started spending the night on the porch of the Bisrate Gabriel Church in Clarkston, Georgia. The Church administration, the parishioners, and people who heard about his situation helped him financially and rented a place for him. However, about a month ago, he left his apartment to go to work, and he never returned to his apartment. Volunteers went out to look for him in places where he used to hang out, but without success. Then a missing person report was filed with Dekalb County Police Department. A missing person poster was posted in public places and was advertised on community radio programs. However, no one was able to find the whereabouts of Mr. Shumi.
Finally, on December 6, 2022, an individual who saw the missing person announcement notified Church officials that they could find information about Mr. Shumi if they called the investigator in the Dekalb Medical Examiner Office. Then the investigator was called the next day, and he confirmed that Mr. Shumi was found dead and his body was at the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Mr. Shumi has no close family or friends nearby. We Ethiopians have a cultural tradition of helping others in need regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or family status.
Dear Brother and Sisters, currently, we are making arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Shumi, and we ask for your financial support to help us send this Ethiopian brother to his eternal home.
Thank you in Advance for Your Support.
