SHS Alumni In Need of Help For Cancer
Donation protected
Hi All,
This is Jayne Ansberry-Porcello & many of you know me as an alumni of Strongsville High School. I'm here to help raise funds for another former alumni and friend, Scott Schoffstall. He has had a rough go in regards to his health. In February of 2021 he broke his ankle. In needing to be out of work for it his job ended up laying him off. Shortly after, in March of 2022 doctors discovered he had pancreatic cancer. Scott went through surgery & chemo to treat it in 2022. This in turn caused him to become diabetic & also made what pancreas he had left not produce enough enzymes to properly digest food. He now needs costly medications for both of these things. As a result of his medical conditions he has not been able to work & is on Disability, which pays once a month & is hardly anything.
More recently, during follow up visits, it has turned out that even though they did surgery & he was receiving chemo, his pancreatic cancer turned to Stage 4 and has spread to his liver. Scott tried a heavier chemo for this and got extremely sick. His doctors told him he would more than likely be in the hospital all of the time if he stayed on the chemo. They said his best bet would be to try clinical trials & they have told him he may have just months left.
Scott is trying to beat this with everything he's got, which is burdening enough, but at this point he and his family are struggling week to week. He has nearly 35 different medications he has to take daily & it's become more difficult to eat well for his health & that of his family's. They have past expenses from all of his health issues that they are still trying to pay off. There hasn't even been anything to save for alternative cancer treatment methods. Scott's doctor's suggestion of going on clinical trials is basically having him be a guineas pig. While something might help, a trial treatment could also cause him to worsen.
Scott & his family need a break! They need to know they can provide healthy food choices, cover past medical expenses, take care of current medical needs, & possibly have a little left for some alternative treatments.
Please consider donating. Let's help him concentrate on his health & reduce the financial stresses he and his family are unfortunately having to deal with.
With much appreciation,
Jayne
