Ethan Forrest's Road to recovery
Donation protected
On Tuesday, February 23rd, my friend’s 8 year old son was walking across the school cross walk and was hit by a speeding car! From eyewitnesses, the vehicle dragged the small boy for 15 feet before finally stopping, thanks to the boy’s older brother that ran after the driver screaming for them to stop! Edmonton police blocked off the road for several hours while investigating. Several witnesses said the woman who was driving, was speeding through a school zone with crosswalk lights flashing, and that this kind of speeding happens often. Ethan who was bloody and screaming underneath her car, was quickly rescued by the paramedics and rushed to emergency to assess whether he would live.
Thankfully Ethan has survived! To his mother and his older brother, a miracle has occurred! Ethan is now in recovery, after spending several days in intensive care and physiotherapy. He is out of the hospital, but is not out of the woods yet! This “Go Fund-Me” campaign is about providing the family with a little extra financial help during such a traumatic time. The physical wounds will heal faster than the emotional wounds.
My friend Jennifer, is a single mother raising two boys by herself, Ethan 8, Alex 14, and she is doing her best to protect her children. The unthinkingable has happened to her family, and the shock is starting to wear off. I feel helpless being so far away from my friend, who was born and raised in Cape Breton, and who is living in Alberta by herself trying to make a better life for her family. I can’t do much, but I can help raise a little funds for them, for whatever bills or time away from work she had to take while sitting next to her son in the hospital. Not knowing whether your child is going to live or not, due to the negligence of a distracted driver…… I can’t even imagine being in her situation. Watching your younger brother being hit by a car, and dragged down the road on the pavement……that image won’t go away any time soon. Being a child, leaving school, carefree; trusting an adult driving a car that they are responsible enough to stop, and having that trust broken. All three members of this family have a heck of a lot to deal with, and I personally think having a little extra money kicking around will help.
