In this new year, The Shrewsbury Chorale is excited to present more brilliant concerts of choral music for the Monmouth County area!
On Sunday, March 26th, we will present our concert “The Golden Harp,” at Christ Episcopal Church in Christ Church, Middletown, NJ. Along with a few standard choral gems by Mozart, Palestrina, and Byrd, the majority of the repertoire features music which is much less often performed. For the first half, we will present Gwyneth Walker’s “The Golden Harp,” a recent, larger work based on the words of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
“The Golden Harp” is scored for mixed chorus and a string quartet – that is why we are reaching out to you today. We hope that you, the supporters of the Shrewsbury Chorale and the music we are bringing to our community, will help to fund a brilliant, professional string quartet to enhance our next concert. In the past year and a half under the musical direction of Fiona Smith Sutherland, we have sung many unaccompanied works, along with pieces accompanied by organ or piano, but singing with a string quartet will help to bring our performance to a new level.
Founded in 1957, the Shrewsbury Chorale is a small, quality, choral ensemble in Monmouth County, NJ specializing in eclectic concerts featuring lesser known and/or living choral composers.
Would you like to help contribute towards the string quartet for our upcoming concert? Any donation amount will have an impact. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause.
