Showing Up for Amy and Kevin Snyder During Amy’s Ongoing Cancer Battle
________________________________________
WHO THEY ARE
Amy and Kevin are the kind of people who are easy to love and have lived a life of service to others. I first met them at church when they took over the cooking ministry, and I became one of their weekly cooks. They quickly became some of our dearest friends, embodying everything you hope for in a friend: hospitable, kind, helpful, and thoughtful. They are as close to “Jesus with skin on” as they come.
Amy and Kevin approach their friendships, work, community service and family roles with unwavering commitment. Amy’s love for learning and teaching has impacted countless lives through her work with the Holocaust Museum, Champions for Learning (where she led the Golden Apple Awards), as a former teacher and now at the Georgia Historical Society, where she trains teachers across the state Amy and Kevin are pros at loving others well from their own extended family, to the many ministries they have led and supported over the years in the local church as well as the stranger or customer that encounters them on a daily basis-they look for ways to be a blessing.
WHAT THEY’VE ENDURED
In December 2021, Amy was diagnosed with stage 3 aggressive ovarian cancer. She underwent a full hysterectomy followed by four months of chemotherapy. Afterward, she was declared in “partial radiological remission”—scans and labs were clear, but there was no guarantee the cancer was gone.
For two years, she remained in remission. Amy and Kevin moved from Naples, FL, to Savannah, GA, stepping into a new season. But just months later, Amy’s numbers began to climb. The cancer had returned.
She underwent a second round of chemotherapy which was unsuccessful. Within three months, the cancer returned again. A third round was attempted, but it failed as well.
In May 2025, they made a temporary move to Decatur, GA, to begin a six-week intensive treatment at a holistic, integrative clinic. It was a prayerful decision after exhausting traditional medical options. Because the treatments aren’t FDA-approved, they’re not covered by insurance. Kevin took a leave of absence to care for Amy full-time. Amy works remotely when she’s able, but her treatment schedule and health make full-time work extremely difficult.
In addition to the many medical bills and treatments Amy has already endured, the weekly cost of the current treatments (which have a high success rate of effectively treating her particular type of cancer) are not covered by insurance and are around $2,500 a week—totaling approximately $15,000 for the six weeks. Though they are deeply supported by friends, family, coworkers, and their church families (North Naples Baptist and now Bull Street Baptist), the financial burden has grown beyond what they can manage alone.
GIVE WITH CONFIDENCE
This Go Fund Me is hosted by Brandie Dickerson long term friend of Amy and Kevin Snyder and Amy’s sister-in-law, Jessica Macera. This is the only Go Fund Me for Amy Snyder and it is directly linked to their personal banking accounts and all proceeds will go directly to them to support Amy’s ongoing cancer battle. In full disclosure I am charging a fee of one pan of peanut butter brownies for setting up the Go Fund Me-leave off the marshmallows, Kevin!
A PERSONAL NOTE FROM BRANDIE ABOUT AMY AND KEVINS IMPACT ON BRANDIE’S FAMILY
Over the years, Amy and Kevin have shown up for us and our biological and foster children in extraordinary ways. Amy hosted engaging history workshops that the kiddos loved, showed up to birthday parties for foster kids that didn't have a friend we could invite, and they delivered homemade treats that left the kiddos in joyful sugar comas more times than I probably should have allowed! Asha loves a good conspiracy theory chat with Kevin which makes her question everything she thought she knew while digesting whatever homemade concoction they made for her sweet tooth, all while Amy rolls her eyes and says “enough of that Kevin!”
When I sobbed over our foster children being placed in a very poor and eventually failed placement they openly wept with us. When we got the kiddos back but after time needed a new placement due to prior commitments on our part, Amy and Kevin offered to take two of the children in, saying, “We’re not going to let what happened to them last time happen to them again.” They went through the whole foster licensing process, and they lovingly prepared a room for them—and then, cancer struck.
Amy, having experienced her mother’s cancer as a teenager, didn’t want the children to go through that. Despite her illness and the fact that the children were not able to move in they remained faithful to love them. They are the same way with their own family members and friends-they are the embodiment of what it means to "show up.”
So whether you are one of the literal thousands of people who have eaten one of their made with love meals or you are a former or current co-worker, a Golden Apple awardee or nominee, have been impacted by Amy's love of learning and teaching or you had kids that single handedly snuck in the kitchen and ate an entire tray of jalapeno poppers that were for a large party (I still feel bad about that but I’m pretty sure they don’t) or you don't know Amy and Kevin at all but you want to show up for people who have made a life out of showing up for others please consider giving any amount you can to support Amy's ongoing fight against cancer!
Ways to help-The greatest need is prayer, followed by financial support and spreading awareness of this Go Fund Me. Amy and Kevin have never had social media so it is critical for people to share this Go Fund Me far and wide on your social media and through other avenues that will bring support such as sharing the Go Fund Me through emails, text, and calls.
Kevin and Amy offer their heartfelt gratitude for all support of any kind. Thank you will never be enough but thankful they will be.
