Showing support for Ruth Myers and family

This Go Fund Me is being set up to support the families of Ruth Myers and Michele Dose (Ruth's daughter). In April 2021 Ruth was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer - Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma (less than 2% of cancer diagnosis yearly, with less than a 5% "5-year survival rate"). She had tumors in her liver, pancreas, stomach, and lymph nodes. Ruth went through 4 rounds of "platinum chemotherapy" and 10 radiation sessions (chemo finished in June and radiation in August). Chemo made her pretty sick and she lost most of her hair. Because this cancer is so aggressive, it typically comes back within the first year, so patients get repeat scans every 2 months. Ruth's scans in August and October were perfect, everyone rejoiced and were so hopeful! They were devastated in December when her scan showed new tumors in the liver, the cancer was back (only 5 months after finishing chemo).

Ruth and Michele met with the oncologist yesterday, her best option moving forward is a Clinical Trial (at OSU The James in Columbus, Ohio). They were told that Ruth has just months, maybe a year, to live. She is starting a trial next week, but it was made very clear that the trial will only prolong her life for a while (if it works at all).

Michele and her mom have a very close, special relationship. Michele has 3 young kids (Abbi 12, Eli 7, and Olli 3) and Ruth is a HUGE part of their lives.

First and foremost, please pray for a miracle that only God can provide! We know He is bigger than this cancer, we know He is good, He cares about my mom and cares about what happens to her, He can do the impossible. He is mighty to save, the ultimate healer. Ruth needs a miracle!

Funds are being raised to support the family as they journey down this path and into an uncertain future. Many medical expenses will be covered by the clinical trial at this time, but if it doesn't work there will be uncovered medical expenses. Some of her medication outside of the trial is out-of-pocket. Ruth and Michele will be driving back and forth to The James multiple times a week, for the foreseeable future - so funds will also be used to pay for gas, lodging occasionally, car maintenance, and meals while out for appointments. Ruth may have to retire or at least go on reduced-pay disability, so funds will help cover their daily living needs. And ultimately the money may be used to pay for Hospice care and funeral expenses.
