Showing our support for Bob Becker and his family

Robert “Bob” Becker is a loving husband, wonderful father, doting grandfather, caring brother, and amazing science teacher. On July 23, while enjoying retirement and traveling with his wife of 32 years, Bob suffered a severe stroke.  His stroke has damaged both sides of his thalamus and the top of his brain stem. Unfortunately, at this time Bob remains unconscious as his body fights to recover from this devastating injury.  Due to the severity of his condition, Bob is not yet stable enough to be transported home to the United States and is currently in the neurological ICU in Denmark. 

 

Bob is blessed with an amazing family and his two daughters have flown to Denmark to be with him and his wife, Jane. This fundraiser has been created to provide financial support for his family as they make the next steps for his care. Once stable, the largest expected expense will be transporting Bob home to Massachusetts. We want Bob’s family to be able to focus on Bob and his healing journey.  All donations to this page will be given directly to Bob and his wife.

 

Bob has had an impact on so many of our lives. 

 

He was a teacher for 35 years and taught Biology, AP Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics and more. He was thrilled to spend the bulk of his career at Wachusett Regional High School, where he had graduated in 1982. Both his daughters also attended Wachusett and he even had his youngest, Sarah, as an AP Biology student!

 

In addition to teaching, throughout his career Bob mentored many new hires and student teachers.  He also shared his passion for science in his roll as advisor for Wachusett’s Science Seminar. He was an advocate for educators, serving in the Wachusett Regional Education Association for 2 decades, including over 10 years as the president. Additionally he served on the National Education Association board of directors for the state of Massachusetts for many years. 

 

He has many hobbies, most notably his love of competitive Scrabble. He has been a member of the Lexington and Worcester Scrabble Clubs, and has competed many times in the National Scrabble Tournament. One of his favorite activities is golfing with his teacher friends, both retired and active. 

 

He is a loving family man who cherishes his wife, daughters, grandson and siblings above all else.

 

Bob is an incredibly empathetic and caring man. He has devoted his life to helping others above himself.
