Hi, my name is Brent Whalen, and I am a recovering Covid patient. I’ve now been at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD for 27 days and counting. I’ve spent the majority of that time fighting for my life because of the damage this nasty virus has done to my lungs. But, I’ve also watched the most incredible group of nurses and techs work as hard as I’ve ever seen anyone work in my life. They put their personal health and their family’s health at risk every time they walked into my CCU room to care for ME. And you can see how tired they are, you can see how overwhelmed they are, but they just keep going. I know each and everyone of you has heard stories of overworked nurses and understaffed hospitals. Unfortunately for me, I’ve lived it and watched it every day first hand. These men and women are TIRED. But, do you want to know what’s so impressive about this incredible group of people? When I talk to each of them, they all tell me the same thing: “We signed up for this, this is our job, and we have to do our very best for all of you. How amazing is that?
Which brings me to the reason for this GoFundMe page. I promised myself that I needed to do something to show them how much they are appreciated(they saved my life!!!), that the outside world does care about them, and most importantly, that we care enough to take action to ease some of their stress and burden they carry day in and day out. I’ve set a very lofty goal of $10,000 because I don’t want this mission of mine to be a “one and done” event. I want this to be a sustainable fund that can be used to send in meals and snacks to their break room, to purchase gift cards that can be used for meals at home so they don’t have to cook, and for anything else they may need that will ease their burden, even if it is just temporary. They need to know we care!!!!
And this is where I need your help. I can’t do this alone. I’m hoping you know a nurse or tech, or you’ve heard a story of a loved one that was cared for by one of these amazing people, and you want to show your support and appreciation for the care they give! Any amount you can provide will be generously accepted and go towards showing these nurses and techs we really do care about them and their overall well being. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support…
