Hi everyone,
As you know my sister Jackie is now a two-time cancer survivor in just two years. Being diagnosed once is difficult enough as survivors can attest, but to deal with a recurrence is a pretty tough pill to swallow. Not only are the repeated physical effects a burden, so too, are the financial implications.
Jackie’s scars are literally still healing from the double mastectomy and DIEP flap procedure she underwent in late May. She is also in the middle of a second course of chemo before her follow-up surgery takes place in November. In between her recovery, she’s still providing advice and a shoulder to women who are facing an initial diagnosis. She’s also helping to coordinate a fundraiser for the children of women who have passed away due to their own breast cancer battles.
I think someone who is trying to add light and positivity to the lives of others deserves the same. For that reason, I’m setting up this GoFundMe page. Jackie is making 45% less income being on short-term disability. She also isn’t eligible for several financial grants as some amazing organizations can only provide assistance once per lifetime to individuals. That’s tough news to someone facing a second diagnosis when bills continue to add up.
So I ask that you consider contributing to this page, sharing it, and if you can, pass along some encouragement to Jackie. I know she would deeply appreciate and will pay it forward. Thank you in advance!
-Patricia
