If you know Troy, you likely know him as being an incredible source of support. Whether as a collaborator or a friend, Troy genuinely wants to make everyone feel confident and fulfilled in life. Right now, Troy could use exactly this type of support as he recovers from a sudden and life-threatening medical crisis that took place in November 2022.
On November 15th, Troy awoke with a severe reduction in vision as well as significant edema in his legs and feet. Upon testing his vitals at urgent care, doctors quickly transferred him to the ER due to blood pressure levels indicative of a heart episode. Once bringing his vitals down to a safe level, doctors decided to keep Troy in the ICU both for monitoring and so they could conduct testing to find the source of this severe event. He remained in the ICU for 5 days until doctors determined that he was well enough to continue resting and monitoring his vitals at home.
Troy’s diagnosis came just over a week after his hospitalization began. Focal Segmental Glumerulosclerosis (yikes!) is a rare kidney disease characterized by dysfunction in the part of the kidney that filters blood (the glomeruli). Only some glomeruli are affected, but continued damage can lead to kidney failure [nephcure.org]. In very simple terms, Troy’s body has been suffering numerous very harmful side effects due to this previously undiagnosed disease, including massively increased blood pressure & heart rate, full-body edema, severe migraines, retinal damage, and sleep & diet issues. There is no cure for FSGS, but with lifestyle changes and continued medical treatment, Troy can prevent further damage to his kidneys, protecting him from further heart & vision issues or even kidney failure.
100% of relief funds will be allocated to outstanding bills for services provided by the wonderful healthcare workers of Chicago, specifically at Northwestern Medicine and Advocate Memorial Hospital. Any funds in excess of the requested amount will go to life services for Troy as he continues to master a new lifestyle consisting of diet changes, more stringent work hours, and continued cost of living expenses. Not to mention the continued development of his newly-formed post-production house Post Mambo, which he established in 2021 with sound engineer & composer & friend Justin Enoch!
We are GRATEFUL for the immense amount of emotional, moral, health, and financial support that we have already received in the first month of Troy’s recovery. We are proud to be a part of such wonderful communities that value each other as work partners, neighbors, and most importantly, human beings. THANK YOU!!!
