Please join my family and I in our support of my dad during this difficult time in the hospital.
We would appreciate your love, prayers and thoughts for my father, Tony.
He is currently admitted at UCSD La Jolla after he had a second surgery this past Wednesday, trying to improve his arterial blood flow in his left lower leg and foot, which has been very infected, riddled with chronic ulceration and infection, and extraordinary pain due to diseased veins and very poor blood flow that cannot be improved.
Doctors will be doing a third surgery this Wednesday, April 25th. They will try a third time to look at any and every possibility to improve blood flow and repair his veins although the other two attempts have shown that viability of veins for improving blood flow or repairing with bypass as unlikely.
At this point in time, their recommendation is amputation from the knee down despite their many attempts to repair his veins and save his foot while fighting a very bad infection.
He has been struggling with diseased veins for many years, but it has gotten much worse this past year. His surgery will be very high risk due to his other health conditions of heart failure (they will be addressing some blockages during surgery), and his neuromuscular disease, Myasthenia Gravis, which makes sedation and anesthesia even more dangerous.
Please PRAY! Please call, write messages, come visit, show him some love as he is dealing with very difficult news and is preparing emotionally, psychologically and physically for this major life altering surgery.
This will all happen in one surgery, and we are hoping for a miracle. Even if amputation does not occur, my dad's mobility is very difficult.
We are working on getting him through this surgery, long hospital stay as well as a probable stay at skilled nursing for some time doing extra physical therapy and occupational therapy for day-to-day living.
My dad's situation is urgent and my parents are in need first and foremost of love and support. Please feel free to direct all questions to me at [email redacted]
In addition to your love and support, we are in need of any support financially of any size and it is greatly appreciated.
Your support will help in the following ways:
-modification and components needed to make their vehicle more accessible (2,000+)
-modification of their bathroom for disabled accessibility of shower, toilet, doorways, and accommodations for their home (4,500)
-durable medical equipment such as a hospital bed, railing, toilet and other more functional furniture and supplies (1,500+)
-additional medical and household supplies, transportation costs (gas and parking to SD daily for my mom), medical bills and treatment costs, help with care taking and nursing (2,500+)
Your love, support, prayers and assistance is so greatly needed and appreciated.
Please email me or call me with additional questions, ideas, or ways you can help us rally behind my dad and fight the good fight.
Thank you for your time, love and consideration.
Sincerely,
The Salas Family
