Show up for India

Donation protected

Dear Lovers of all things India,

What is the “Show up for India” campaign?

I started the “Show up for India” campaign to raise awareness and funds as well as highlight non-donation ways people can help some fantastic charities that are addressing the Covid pandemic in India.

It helps provides a way for those looking to support verified organisations that resonate with their values, either financially or non-financially.

And also have some fun at my expense!

How is “Show up for India” campaign creating awareness?

Initially, I created the campaign by releasing, for the first time in 20 years, comedy clips from my brief stint as a TV presenter in 1999, as a sign of solidarity.

These clips also hopefully provide some light relief during these times :-)

Not going to lie... I was hesitant to release these clips for fear of unthinkable embarrassment. But I couldn’t think of a more worthy cause.

However, the REAL work is to highlight the ways these organisers are addressing the India Covid situation for both the short and long term.

Where can I find see the comedy videos, updates on the organisations and more information?

For my comedy presenting clips, you can see them here at this link on YouTube  (ashalad). I am
also on Instagram (@ashalad) and TikTok (@theashalad).

My interviews with these organisations and their updates are also on YouTube and in the updates section below.

For finding out ways they need support beyond monies, you can find in the updates sections below.

Which organisations are you supportingand what are they doing?

I am currently supporting two initiatives addressing the short and longer term needs for India to manage the Covid pandemic:

British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) is in collaboration with Akshaya Patra. They are providing equipment, telemedicine and food to the needy including at hospitals and key workers. Help can also be provided by all physical and mental health practitioners.

Help India Breathe is providing breathing equipment, distributing Covid care kits and training unemployed youth as paramedics. Help can also be given by medics on Covid best practises, ICU expertise, equipment donations and social media.

How much are you raising?

There isn’t a real fundraising target, I’d love us to focus on how many people we can help together. In real terms, £50 roughly buys an oxygen tank.

Let’s see how we do. Our best is good enough.

Where can I donate?

Search “show up for India” on gofundme.com
or

International donations accepted

What non financial help do these organisations need?

BAPIO:  Telemedicine by physical and mental health practitioners.

Help India Breathe: practioners sharing Covid best practises, ICU expertise, equipment donations and social media.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or ways you’d like to help.

I hope you do consider sharing my page, videos and with friends, family and encourage others to donate.

If my video clips aren’t your thing (I won’t be offended!), I hope you still do consider donating and do it for whatever else you like about India - yoga, chai, samosas, Ayurveda....

Lets Show up for India together, appreciate its colourful culture and have a laugh at my expense

Much love,

Asha
