Update: 8/6/2021
Good Morning,

Mike is still in constant pain. He’s had three Trigeminal nerve block injections to date without much success for long term relief. His pain management doctor has put him on new medication to see if it works. So far it hasn’t.

We both had to step down from our positions with CFISD at CyPark High School and are deeply saddened by having to have made this decision. Mike can’t return to work and I can’t leave him. We have a lot going on and we ask that you please continue to pray for healing for Mike and strength for our family.

We love and appreciate all the love, prayers and support we have received from so many. We are truly blessed and grateful. Thank you for the text messages and phone calls and the occasional visits. We love hearing from you.
We ask that you please continue to pray.  And feel free to reach out.

Thank you,

Celeste

Update - 7/24/2021

Good morning,

it's been a while since I updated. Wanted to take a few minutes to catch you up.
Mike has had a few so/so days that he's been able to talk on the phone, eat, go to the grocery store... but those days he still has some level of pain. Usually around a 7 on the pain scale. What we have noticed is the day after a so/so day he has a very painful day and he's very tired. It's a hard place to be, we never know when he will get hit with intense pain. He had an appointment with a neurologist at the VA on Monday. She has put in a referral for him to consult with a neurosurgeon to discuss other options. He has an appointment with the pain management doctor today for his 3rd injection. He still depends on the pain medication daily to have some relief, but because it's morphine he takes it every 5-6 hours.
This week he will see a pulmonologist at the VA, next Tuesday he sees his primary care doctor,  on August 27 he will see the hematologist at the VA.
His cluster headaches seem to be affecting his right eye. Sometimes he can't open it and it stays shut all day. Bright lights, computer screens, his phone screen all bother him. He still has pain if he talks too much or when biting into his food. Sometimes the pain is on his scalp. It seems to travel.

I'm working diligently trying to get him as much assistance as I can. Sometimes I'm on the phone and on-line all day long.

Anyway...I tell you all this so you know what to specifically be praying for.  We truly believe that God has a plan and that it will be the perfect one for our situation right now. The MOST important thing to me is to get Mike to a healthier place. Please continue to pray. Pray that the injection today will give him longer relief and that when we meet with the neurosurgeon that he will have a great plan to eliminate this pain. Pray that the pulmonologist says the blood clot is gone and he no longer needs to take eliquis.

Pray for our family to continue to be strong.

We are so grateful for all the love and prayers we have received. We are grateful for our nephew Nathan being able to drive us to some of Mike's appointments because there's no way I could drive through thunderstorms and to the VA downtown. I probably would have a heart attack.

We have a LOT to be thankful for and we are. We love you. ♥️♥️

Update 6/1/2021

Dear family and friends,

Words cannot begin to describe the overwhelming gratitude I have for each and every one of you.

It’s been a stressful time for our family with the concern for Mike’s health. Your prayers have been felt and we ask that you please continue to pray.

Mike has had numerous doctor’s appointments and has many more coming up in the next few weeks.

The pulmonologist would like for him to visit with a hematologist, and undergo a series of test to rule out any other reason for the blood clot other than COVID. The cardiologist found abnormalities in his EKG and would like for him to have a stress test. His neurological appointment is set for later in June. He is to go monthly to his primary care doctor to make sure he’s doing okay and to monitor his heart and blood pressure.

I spend a lot of time on the phone with doctors offices setting appointments.

Through all this Mike and I remain positive that he will be healed of the blood clot and any heart issues.

Right now he has learned and continues to learn how to manage the pain of the Trigeminal Neuralgia with pain medication. He’s on a lot of different medications and some days are better than others. He gets tired easily and needs to rest. Sometimes he feels better and wants to go out for a little while. His doctors encouraged him to “move” around a bit but not to overdo. The doctor told Mike that his body was traumatized by the severe pain and dehydration and needs to heal. Only rest and time, proper diet and hydration and praying will get him through this.

He’s eating better and has gained back 5 pounds of the 25 pounds he lost. I definitely see daily improvements in him. The Trigeminal Neuralgia will remind him that it’s still there and can come on and cause pain at any time. It’s a little stressful knowing that the pain can come on at any given moment without warning. But we have a pain management plan that is working right now. For that we are so grateful.

Thank you all so much for your prayers, your love and your support. May God return the blessings to you and your family. We love you all so much. To the anonymous donors and the friends of friends...thank you , thank you, thank you!! God bless you all.

With Gratitude,

Celeste Mendoza

Update: May 2, 2021 - For all of you that have given - Thank you does not go far enough! Mike and Celeste are feeling loved and supported, beyond measure, during this trying time.  The generosity of each and every one of you have made such a difference.
For Mike - he is learning to manage the Trigeminal Neuralgia but doctor's are still very concerned about the after effects of Covid and the impact of the blood clot.  Mike will not be able to return to work this school year, nor will Celeste, as his caregiver.
The money donated will be going to cover medical costs, and supplement the loss of income for both Mike and Celeste.  Thank you again for all of the love and generosity. Please continue to pray for healing and good reports thru all of the doctor's appointments.

To know Mike and Celeste Mendoza is to love them.  At the beginning of April, Mike began suffering from health issues. Mike was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia, a very painful nerve disorder that attacks the nerves on the face and is incurable. This led to several trips to the ER and a week long stay in the hospital. While in the hospital it was discovered that Mike also had COVID and a blood clot in his right lung.

He is home now but the fight is far from over.  At this time, the very earliest that Mike will be able to return to work is May 17th. Celeste is also having to take time off from work to care for him.  As you can imagine, the cost of hospital bills, prescriptions and the added strain of moving into a new home can be very costly.  We have all been blessed in some way by the help and generosity of these two loving people.  I am asking on behalf of the Mendoza family that you donate what you can during this difficult time and show  Mike and Celeste how we LOVE, SERVE and CARE. After all, it is the PARK WAY!

Please also continue to pray and lift up Mike and Celeste during this time. They are asking for healing and strength.
