Rue’s Childhood Cancer Battle

This sweet girl is my cousin, Rue. A month ago, she was visiting us here in Virginia, laughing with her cousins, playing in the river, visiting skyline caverns, and generally being a normal 14 year old.  The day before yesterday, she celebrated her 15th birthday in the hospital, where she is battling stage three lymphoma. It happens that fast, folks. The speed with which a healthy child can transform into a cancer patient, waging the fight of her life, is dizzying.  This disease is a terrifying, and it is looming large over my family.  Cancer has a worthy foe in Rue, and her mom, my cousin, Gara.  Gara is a force to be reckoned with in all things, and this is no exception. She’s got her girl, and they will both come out the other side of this, heads held high, I have no doubt about that. BUT, in the the meantime, we gotta keep the lights on. Gara is a single mom, and she is spending every moment at Rue’s side. Bills are piling up, as they have a habit of doing.  So, let’s show these awesome women some love. We appreciate it, and I know I speak for Gara, my Aunt Cindy and Uncle Gary, and Ruebaby herself when I say thank you, from the very bottom of our hearts.
