First and foremost, this thank you is LONG overdue, but we have been patiently waiting for the right moment to deliver Alicia’s results. We cannot thank each and every one of you enough for the outpouring amount of love, support, prayers, meals, cards, calls and texts you have shown our family the past six months.
When Anthony approached me about starting a GoFundMe, I was apprehensive, as we didn’t know how public we wanted Alicia’s stage 3 diagnosis. After several conversations, he finally convinced us that people really want to help out and this provided an avenue for them to make that happen. The funds generated by you all has helped pay for Alicia’s treatment in San Diego, which as of today has still not been approved by our insurance. We are on our third appeal and nothing is guaranteed, but the assistance you all provided helped our family focus on Alicia needs and the kids during this difficult time for our family.
Now for the update on Alicia. After having to make an informed decision on a treatment path shortly after her diagnosis, we decided to go with a different type of radiation/chemo that would limit the amount of healthy bone and tissue damage. Our hope was to keep Alicia as healthy as possible for the long-term, without debilitating side effects. Somehow, she finished her six-week treatment with a smile on her face and joy in her heart. She was focused from the start on beating this and she woke up everyday devoting herself to doing so. And it ALL paid off… I am thrilled to announce that as of last week’s blood test and scan, Alicia is 100% CANCER FREE! All of our prayers have been answered!
We have a new lease on life and for the first time since October, feel that we can start to slowly get back to normal life. We have been wanting to thank each and every one of you from the start of this journey, but now is the moment we must have been waiting for.
