My name is Jason Pierce, and I’m a local restauranteur, long-time customer and fan of Eggy’s Place. Since 2006 Eggy has been serving up breakfast, lunch, wisdom and philosophical banter at Eggy’s Place food truck on the corner of Erie and Lawrence in Albany, New York. An Albany native, Eggy’s been in the food business for over fifty three years. Equally famous for his, well, egg sandwiches of course, pulled pork and unique brand of commentary, Eggy has become an institution, a part of the fabric of the city of Albany.
A sign at Eggy’s Place proudly welcomes customers every morning, stating “I want you to know I can’t make it without you. Please don’t forget that. I want to serve you for a long time. Again thank you all. Love, Eggy!”
Three years ago I posted a GoFundMe asking for help when Eggy was out of work for carpal tunnel surgery and rather unfortunately, now he needs our help again.
Eggy is one-man show. He shows up every morning around 5:20 am, gets the place ready and starts serving food an hour and a half or so later. All day he's on his feet without a break.
Yesterday we had to go in for hernia surgery that will likely leave him unable to do what he does for several weeks. He had been, as he had so eloquently stating, "popping in back in", for a few weeks but it was not sustainable - he had to have the surgery now. There was no more waiting.
Without Eggy, there is no Eggy’s Place. There is no backup cook and no cashier to take your money, Eggy does it all, and while he’s down, he’ll be out of work.
If you’ve enjoyed the man, the breakfast and the conversations as much as I and others have, please, take a moment and make a donation to help him. 100% of the proceeds collected here will go directly to Eggy to aid him in his recovery and to give him a little financial cushion. Let’s show Eggy the same love he’s shown us all these years.
