Show Kat Some Love

Donation protected
My cousin Kat, an extremely kind, charitable, and caring person, is now in need. After giving her time and money to others, she finds herself in a situation where she could use OUR help.

Kathy was diagnosed with alaterial poly-articulate juvenile arthritis in her early teens. She happily trucked on through the pain, successfully completing high school while still competing in sports. She started working for a national retail company shortly after finishing school, and worked for them for well over 20 years. Her arthritis has progressively worsened, so for the last year she has been unable to work. Because she had to resign, she is ineligible for unemployment benefits. She applied for disability, but was denied. She is continuing to seek disability, which is costly. Kat has been using her time to create art from reclaimed wood, and has been selling pieces through the internet and at local craft fairs. Her art is fun and funky, and makes people smile (sounds a bit like Kat, actually.) She doesn't earn much from this endeavor, but is trying to help herself in the best way she knows how.

As for Kat's medical situation, she applied for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, but was turned down because of a 401K account she holds. Since she hasn't been able to receive insurance, she dipped into her 401K to help pay for medical and living expenses, but now owes an income tax penalty for that withdrawal. She also owes a penalty for not carrying medical insurance.

This tax liability, along with a year's worth of medical costs, has put Kathy into a desperate situation. She needs help, and doesn't know where to turn. After giving of herself to young people with JA, bringing joy to everyone who knows her, and just being an all-around awesome human, it is our turn to help. Please, if you have anything to share, would you consider making a contribution large or small to help Kat feel a bit more secure financially? The funds will be used to pay her taxes, her medical expenses, and underwrite the cost of an expensive back procedure her pain management physician is recommending. Any amount you're able to contribute is appreciated.
