We are heartbroken to share that Charlotte Grace Ballard has peacefully passed away last night surrounded by her family and loved ones. We thank everyone for your continued support and generosity as they navigate through this devastating time. A service for Charlotte will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home this Thursday, March 26th, 9am-11am, in Traverse City, MI.

Update (3/21/26)

We want to share a very difficult update on Charlotte. After extensive evaluation and conversations with her care team, Charlotte’s family has made the incredibly hard and heartbreaking decision to withdraw care today and transition to comfort/hospice. They are surrounding her with love as they spend this time together and say their goodbyes. We ask that you please keep the Ballard family in your thoughts and prayers as they walk through this unimaginable time.

We are writing this on behalf of the Ballard family, with their permission, during an incredibly difficult and uncertain time.

On the morning of March 19th, Charlotte Ballard, 18, suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest while being transported by EMS to Munson Medical Center. Upon arrival, she was rushed into the trauma bay and then transferred to the ICU, where she is currently on a ventilator. At this time, Charlotte’s condition is critical. It is believed this may be related to ongoing medical complications from her previous battle with thyroid cancer.

Charlotte is the oldest daughter of three girls. Her parents have spent their lives caring for others in this very community. Her mom is a nurse at Munson Medical Center, and her dad is a local paramedic.

As they step away from work to be with Charlotte, they are facing not only unimaginable emotional weight, but also the financial strain of lost income and significant medical expenses.
