Show Byron our Love

Thank you all for taking the time to view this campaign.  My name is Lisa Baker and I am one of the organizers for Team Byron.  I have had the privilege of working with Byron at Collister Elementary here in Boise, Idaho for the past year and a half.  In that time, I have come to know him as a caring person and a diligent, responsive caretaker of the Collister school building, its children and staff.  Byron is usually the first to greet me every morning as I walk in the door.  In all our lively conversations, I never would have guessed that he had ever had a serious illness.  It was a shock to learn about this only last week.

Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma is a slow growing cancer without a cure. Byron Sliger has had 4 periods of treatments and been in remission up to 4 years at a time over the past 16 years.

Two weeks ago it was discovered that the cancer has invaded his body everywhere. In his bones, his liver, his neck and behind his lung.  We are currently discussing what treatment will look like.  We do know that the cancer is aggressive.

The funds you generously donate for Byron, no matter how small, would be helpful immediately as they would allow his wife Ingrid the opportunity to stop working and be with him through remaining tests and whatever treatment is prescribed.  As it is now, she can't afford to stop working.

If Ingrid did not have to go to work she would also be able to minimize the risk of bringing home any infections to Byron. She works with several clients a day as a hair stylist in two different salons - so the potential for exposure is enormous.  Not to mention the fact that the medical bills will be overwhelming.  Your donations will be easily accessed by Ingrid through the GoFundMe platform.

At this time, because of the COVID-19 virus, we are minimizing contact with people.

The situation is urgent. We will know what treatment going forward looks like in the next few days - but the need to minimize exposure is immediate.

Byron is an ironman. He has been battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for 16 years and he has fought hard each time it rears its ugly head. He married the love of his life 7 years ago and he really needs her at his side this time. Through the battles, he has continued to train and complete marathons, triathlons and century rides.  His optimism, humor and strong support system will be an asset as he faces this battle once again.
