My name is Danny, and I never thought I’d be here asking for help.

I had just gotten home and was trying to relax when bullets suddenly flew through my window. One struck me in the chest, pierced my lung, and is now lodged in my back forever. Doctors told me it’s too risky to remove.

I spent four days in the hospital — including two on life support — fighting for my life. I collapsed that night and thought I was going to die.

Police believe this was a case of mistaken identity. I live alone with my dog and had nothing to do with the events that led to this attack. But I believe they had the wrong house, and now I’m left to deal with the trauma, the fear, and the damage.

Since the shooting, I have been living in fear.

• I’m afraid to sit in my own living room.

• Cars park outside my house, and strangers watch me.

• Every time I see the bullet holes in my wall, I relive that night.

I’ve worked in construction for years, but because of my injuries, I can’t work. I’ve lost my income and I know I cannot stay in this home.

I’m asking for help to cover:

• Repairs for the bullet damage to my home

• Relocation costs so I can move somewhere safe

• Living expenses while I recover and cannot work

• Medical costs from my injuries

This is the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. I’m grateful to be alive, but I need help to rebuild my life and find safety.
