[SEIEIN: LOVE YOUR RAGE] FILM ON WOMEN & ANGER

SUMMARY

Through a compelling docu-fictional narrative, SEIEN: Love Your Rage delves into the societal pressures that often lead women-identifying individuals to suppress their anger, as well as into the transformative power that arises from embracing the complex and diverse colours of our emotions.

The film unfolds in two realms: The collective unconscious where anger’s different facets and stages are expressed through raw embodied movement and dance; and a speculative present re-imagining what ‘tending’ for anger could look like as a conscious cultural practice.

The project was filmed at the Monolith studio in London and on Mount Etna in Sicily between May and August 2023. The film, which is currently being edited and post-produced in Amsterdam, will be released in November 2023, accompanied with an immersive launching ceremony in London.

STORYWORLD

Two members of a speculative community have inherited the role of taking care of ‘Seiein’: a lifeforce which can both destroy and protect, manifesting as seismic activity on the earth’s flesh.

Their interaction oscillates between the intellectual and the embodied, involving the scientific use of sensory augmentation interfaces as well as cultural protocols enacted with intent through the body.

Together, they open up pathways to connect to the subconscious states, lying underneath the surface of the everyday – first for themselves, and with time and endurance, together with others.

Besides the transformative potential of embracing anger, the larger project aims to touch upon the complexities of the theme. For instance, the tension between the use of compassion to let go of anger, and the necessity to channel the same energy to fight for justice.

We aim for the work to act as a catalyst for inspiring dialogue, reflection and action around our personal and collective relationships with anger, in its most nuanced and mindful understanding.

TEAM

Our team is composed of 15 women of diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and ages. From professional filmmakers to dancers, singers, painters, but also psychotherapists, entrepreneurs or facilitators. We all came together with the shared interest in exploring our anger and breaking the stigma around it.

Our mission is to spark a much needed conversation about women and anger in society and empower individuals with tools for self-expression.
