Hello there! We are Raina and Isabel (or Izzie for short) and we are the young creators and writers of 'Regrettably So'.
Logline:
"When a girl is murdered by a mysterious killer, her best friend attempts to deal with her grief by embarking on a journey to figure out the truth behind her death."
We are passionate writers and actresses that want to tell stories that evoke emotion and present the audience with an authentic story that challenges our views, so, we have written this 13-minute short film that explores what it is truly like to be young and dealing with grief.
The short film "Regrettably so" will be produced by the Los Angeles based production company Diversity Pictures Ent. We are thrilled to be working with them!!
We have written this film because of 3 key reasons.
One: The inauthenticity in other coming-of-age films. As teenagers, we wanted Regrettably so to delve into the truth behind how youth deal with grief, from a youth perspective.
Two : Break down the barriers of language and communication.
By using animations and movement as a universal language, Regrettably so will tell internal stories that words alone cannot express.
Three: Presenting audiences with tangible ways to cope through the hardships. Regrettably so explores the use of journalling, art, and dance as coping mechanisms and ways to heal and discover more about yourself.
To make this film we need your help! To make a high-quality short film, we have estimated that we need to raise $5000, any money raised above this target will go to further aiding in the creation and distribution of the film.
We are very grateful for any contribution you can make, and any donations will mean YOUR NAME will be credited in the film! We appreciate you for your support!
Synopsis:
FRANKIE; a 17-year-old girl, attempts to cope with the loss of her best friend ARLOE while also trying to solve the mystery of her murder. Arloe's killer remains a mystery months later despite the police’s investigation to find the killer. When Frankie lost her best friend, she lost a part of herself too, and turns to dance and journaling as a way to cope.
This void in her is also filled by a stranger, RYLEE, a girl that seems to understand Frankie and relate to her loss. Their friendship grows quickly despite meeting serendipitously at a train station. But as they spend they day talking Frankie begins to pick up on little things that Rylee says in their conversations about Arloe. Things that are impossible for Rylee to know… unless she was there on the night of Arloes death.
Overwhelmed by suspicion of who Rylee is and how she knows so much about Arloe, Frankie confronts her, but the truth is far from what she could have ever believed possible.
Think the story of “Looking For Alaska" mixed with "Lady Bird"
