Primordial Silence - A Short Film about Loneliness

Donation protected
Have you ever felt emotionally frozen while life keeps moving around you?
We are bringing Primordial Silence to life, a short independent film born from that feeling. A deeply personal project that explores emotional numbness, isolation, and the possibility of rebirth.

This film is driven by atmosphere rather than spectacle. Through stillness, sound, and repetition, Primordial Silence invites the audience into a meditative space where memory and silence coexist, and where emotional stagnation slowly gives way to renewal. The visual language is restrained and tactile, allowing images and sound to carry meaning where words fall short. Our aim is to create a film that feels intimate and reflective, enabling viewers, wherever they are, to recognize parts of themselves in its quiet rhythms.

The film will have an approximate runtime of 15 minutes and will be shot over a three-day production period in mid-February in Berlin.

Why This Film Needs Your Support:
We are reaching out to our community to raise €3,000, which will go directly into making a festival worthy film safely and responsibly. This is a completely independent project, created by a dedicated team of filmmakers coming from different backgrounds united by a shared love for filmmaking and for using cinema as a way to give form to emotions and experiences that are often left unspoken. In the same spirit, the film follows Blue’s character whose inner journey is not defined by labels, but by emotion and presence.

The funding will mainly cover meals for the cast and crew, location rentals, props and wardrobe, and transport, ensuring that everyone is supported throughout the shoot. A crucial part of the budget is dedicated to securing a human-sized water tank, a fundamental prop in the film, as well as to hiring experienced safety professionals, including a qualified set medic and stunt/safety coordinator. These measures are essential to protect the main actor and the crew, particularly when working with water-based scenes. For us, safety is not optional; it is fundamental to how this film is made.

If we are able to save any funds during production, they will go directly into post-production and festival submission fees, helping the film reach audiences beyond the shoot itself.

About The Character and Story:
The film follows Blue’s story who is a young professional working in a publicity agency moving through the sterile routines of modern life, disconnected from warmth and intimacy. Haunted by the unresolved absence of their mother, Blue begins to experience flashes of a heartbeat echoing through their day as a visceral reminder of something human and lost.

At night, surrounded by unfinished paintings and fading memories, Blue records a final voice message to someone who no longer answers. Their voice dissolves into static, and the image of their body, suspended in a water tank, reveals a return to the womb-like silence from which life first emerged.

Through its elliptical structure and sensory imagery, Primordial Silence explores alienation, grief, and the desire for renewal.

Meet The Director and Producer:

Alessandro Scala (Director):
Alessandro Scala is an Italian filmmaker based in Berlin whose work explores the intersection of mental health, identity, and human transformation. He is currently completing a Master’s degree in Film, Television, and Digital Narratives at SRH University, where he continues to develop a personal cinematic language rooted in psychological depth and sensory experience.

Through a minimalist approach to dialogue and a strong emphasis on evocative sound design, Alessandro creates intimate psychological portraits that navigate the tension between inner silence and emotional intensity.

His previous short films have explored themes of loneliness and alienation, establishing a visual language grounded in atmosphere and perception rather than exposition. These works reflect an ongoing interest in how inner worlds shape our experience of reality.

Primordial Silence continues this exploration. The film is an introspective study of isolation and rebirth, examining the fragile balance between self-awareness and dissolution, and represents a natural evolution of Alessandro’s artistic and academic journey.

Ahad Ahmed Khan (Producer):
Ahad Ahmed Khan is a Berlin-based filmmaker from Pakistan, currently pursuing his Master’s in Film & TV at SRH Berlin. In Pakistan, his creative work was often limited to commercial projects, and he was unable to explore sensitive subjects such as mental health, grief, and the emotional struggles that are stigmatized or censored. Moving abroad opened the door to a freedom he had long been denied: the chance to tell stories that truly matter to use film as a way to reflect on experiences that are often left unspoken.

He has over seven years of professional experience, having worked as 1st Assistant Director on feature films and as a producer and director on short films, music videos, and documentaries. He is skilled in securing and managing crews and locations, maintaining smooth shoots, overseeing budgets, and ensuring safety on set, and has also supervised post-production independently to deliver polished final projects.

Through his work, Ahad strives to create films that not only bring overlooked stories to light but also support and nurture the people around him, building a collaborative and creative environment.

Director’s Statement:
Have you ever felt the ground give way beneath your feet?
You wake up one morning and everything around you is destroyed, even though it doesn’t seem that way. The sun keeps shining, the subway keeps arriving on time, and the supermarket downstairs is still open until ten.

And yet everything is ruined, but no one can see it. You remain there, frozen, drowsy. You keep walking, but you can no longer find the meaning in it.

A mother gives us life, and for nine months our heartbeats are synchronized.
When the person who gave us stability dies - the one who made us feel loved for the first time, who gave us warmth and protection - how can we imagine a world without her?

We can’t.

And so emerges the impossible desire to return to the womb, to that place which taught us, before anything else, what love is.

The final act to return to life, perhaps realizing that what is being sought is death itself.
