Short Film Fund: "The Jacket"
Donation protected
Friends,
This June we’re filming a comedy short titled “The Jacket,” about a man who spirals for years over a decision to buy a leather jacket. When people say a film is “important” and “timely,” this is what they are talking about.
While we’ve scraped together a good amount of the budget from our own pockets, we are now turning to our friends and family to help us reach the finish line. The funds through this crowdsourcing effort would ensure we can pay our crew the rates they deserve, while also giving us flexibility to expand our art department as we build our clothing store set.
The film is the definition of a passion project, so we’re making it one way or the other. It’s the type of comedy both Katy and Dan love: character-driven and tonal with big, unexpected moments. We are also excited to work with our cinematographer, who has an incredible track record of creating unique visual languages that elevate script and story. This thing is going to look like a million bucks, but we only need a few thousand more to make it.
We would be extremely grateful for anything you would be willing to contribute to the effort. All we can offer in return is our sincere thanks, your name on the credits for a quarter of a second, and our assurance that this comedy will entertain you for roughly 8 minutes.
Thank You,
Dan and Katy
Dan (Writer, Producer): Dan is a comedy writer who, from 2013 to 2017, wrote for The Onion where he held the dual roles of Senior Writer and Sports Editor. Now based in Los Angeles, he most recently worked as the Writers’ Assistant on Netflix’s animated dramedy “Carol and the End of the World,” from creator Dan Guterman.
Katy Yeiser (Director, Producer): Katy directs and writes comedy for TV, the internet, and scripted podcasts (when those were a thing). She also directs commercials. Credits include: Netflix's "Everybody's In LA", TBS's "Underrated," The Onion, and Team Coco. She was also a longtime commercial director for Major League Baseball’s video game series MLB The Show (Playstation, XBox, Nintendo). At The Onion, she oversaw the creation of A Very Fatal Murder, a parody of true crime podcasts that received critical acclaim. She also co-created, co-wrote, and co-directed a 10-episode comedic narrative Team Coco podcast called Frontier Tween starring Conan O’Brien and Maria Bamford. The most three pointers she’s ever hit in a pick up game is five.
