Short Film: Certain of Nothing

Certain of Nothing is a film about difference; about the realities of subjectivity and the importance of extending grace to people we encounter that are not at the same point in their journey as ourselves.

This story is told through two characters. An intrepid writer, preoccupied with their work; and a fencer, who finds themself in a battle with the writer, vying for their attention despite his self-absorption. The fencer pursues the writer throughout the course of a day, and ends up learning more about themself than the person they’re chasing.

The short will be filmed by Amaya Benbow, a Chicago-based director of photography, and it will be scored by Shi-An Costello, accompanied by various musicians in Chicago’s music ecosystem.

At our current budget level, this fundraiser will help to pay for crew rates, quality equipment, and post-production costs.

On a personal note, I’m happy to finally be able to firmly step into the arts after putting in work for the people in my community through philanthropy, journalism, and direct service work. I’ve been plotting on this since 2018. Thanks for contributing to my first steps!
