Short Film “Beaks”
Donation protected
My name is Bia Linsbear and I’m a latina film student from Brazil with a big passion for storytelling and connecting with people through art. Currently I’m in my final year of film school and in order to graduate I need to make a thesis short-film. My project is called “Beaks” (or “Bicos” in Portuguese, slang for "jobs") and it follows Gaia, a 21-year-old young woman who recently graduated from art college and now has to work in various jobs, ranging from production assistant at cultural events to pet photographer. Tired of this life of poorly paid freelance work, Gaia decides to sign up for a new platform that finances artists in exchange of artwork for the company whose financing it. What Gaia didn’t expect was that she would be sucked into a virtual dimension by signing up and would become enslaved by an evil Artificial Intelligence that steals artwork made by humans.
Therefore, the film is a take on the marginalization of freelance artists, especially those at the beginning of their careers. It also encourages the debate about the advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the impact it is having on the lives of artists and society as a whole. Themes that are very personal to me and the crew who I am making this movie with. However, unfortunately, we don’t have enough money to make the movie happen on our own. So, me and my friend Margarita, from New York, we decided to make an international campaign to help fund-raise faster the money necessary to make the project happen. The reason for that is because one dollar equals 5 bucks in Brazilian currency, so that way we can reach a goal much sooner. So, we beg you to please donate and help us make this movie! That way you will encourage more female latina filmmakers in 3rd world countries have more opportunities to put their voices out there <3
