Short Doc: Endometriosis, Medical Trauma & Bias

Donation protected
The Invisible Crown is a short documentary film directed by Amelia Kramer and produced by Hannah Myers Lindgren, with production support from Bayonet and Chop Shop Post. We are 80% through production and will move into post production in December. Thanks to in-kind production support, we only have about 30% left to raise to help us cover finishing costs and get this story launched into the world! Help us tell this important story of chronic illness, gender bias and medical trauma.

Film Synopsis:

The Invisible Crown is an honest look into the emotional, mental, and physical consequences of being a woman with Endometriosis. Hannah Lindgren has lived with this disease for over half of her life. She is ready to share her story to expose systemic gender inequality in the medical system and to inspire other women to advocate for their health.

A 2019 survey found that more than half of women believe gender discrimination in patient care is a serious problem. One in five women have felt that a provider has ignored or dismissed their symptoms. Because of this, it takes an average of 9-10 years for women with Endometriosis to get a diagnosis, often leading to lifelong pain and infertility. Yet an astonishing one in nine women have the disease.

Hannah has lived out these statistics. It took almost 10 years for her to be diagnosed with Endometriosis after initially bringing up her concerns to her gynecologist at age 15. Since her diagnosis, she has seen numerous doctors, has had multiple surgeries, and tried every treatment option. We join Hannah's journey as she prepares to see a highly respected Endometriosis surgeon, and ultimately decides to go through with another surgery, this time hoping for longer-lasting results.

We explore the trauma Hannah has experienced from being systematically disbelieved by the medical system, the complicated relationship she has with her body and identity, the people who have supported her, and her steadfast pursuit for a better quality of life.
