Shiro’s Journey to Walk & Play Again

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jezelle and I’m fundraising for my dog. Shiro has been a part of my family since he was a puppy and has only celebrated his 3rd birthday just two months ago. At such a young age, my bestest friend and companion is already facing a time of tremendous grief and pain.

Why I’m Reaching Out:

In the span of just three days, Shiro’s health has started to rapidly decline with what neurologists have diagnosed as IVDD. This is a genetic disease that results in early degeneration and dehydration of the intervertebral discs that normally function as cushions between bones of the spine, causing them to become brittle and lose their ability to absorb compressive forces.

In Shiro’s case, disc herniation has occurred which has additionally resulted in him developing blood clots and hemorrhaging. This has unfortunately caused him to lose function in his two hind legs, in addition to losing sensation and feeling.

Shiro has been taken to VCA East Bay Veterinary Emergency, Brentwood Veterinary Hospital, SAGE Redwood City Veterinary Center, and UC Davis Veterinary Hospital for several consultations. After much evaluation, the specialists we have seen have recommended spinal decompression surgery by hemilaminectomy wherein the herniated disc material that is pressing down on his spinal cord is removed.

While this emergency procedure grants Shiro a chance of recovering his fine motor skills, an unfortunate result of his sudden decline has granted him permanent incontinence (loss of bowel and bladder function). Donations to this campaign will assist with the costs of his MRI scan, surgery, and the recovery costs of medication, recheck appointments, and rehabilitation/therapy.

A Heartfelt Request:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read Shiro’s story and for any support you can offer. Your kindness and compassion during this challenging time means so much, especially so close to the holidays.

I ask you to please consider supporting this campaign, whether it be donating or sharing this online with others who might want to support Shiro. Hopefully Shiro’s road to recovery is without trouble and a fast one at that so he can go back to playing with his older brother!

Warmest regards,
Jezelle
