As we close out Black History Month for 2025, I would like to introduce you to a Navy hero. George M. Neal, a Springfield native, Navy Veteran, POW, Navy Cross recipient, and now being honored with a Navy ship in his honor. Our family will be christening the USS George M. Neal DDG 131 in spring 2026. We will be sharing George M. Neal’s story at the Springfield Heritage Center in November 2025 and would like to include a replica ship model to be displayed at the center.
