Shine for Venus: Cancer Support Fund

Today I want to tell you with a deep sense of urgency and an overwhelmed heart that our dear friend Lina and her family are going through a distressing situation. On September 11, her mother, Venus, was diagnosed with colon cancer.

This news has shaken the family, especially because they did not expect to face this difficult situation, and even more so, they are far from home. Therefore, we need your help to support them at this time.

VENUS' DIAGNOSIS

Venus, Lina's mother, two months ago experienced severe stomach pain and problems urinating and this led her to seek immediate medical attention, they admitted her to the emergency room and they said that her kidneys were not functioning properly, after a few days in the clinic they diagnosed her with g3aa1 chronic kidney disease, ordered some tests and scheduled an appointment with the nephrologist.

On the day of the appointment, what was expected to be a routine and informative appointment about a degenerative but non-fatal disease turned into a nightmare when they received the heart-wrenching diagnosis.

Apart from g3aa1 chronic kidney disease, they found cancer in her colon (adenocarcinoma) with liver metastasis. She requires immediate surgery and aggressive chemotherapy to control the cancer among many other treatments.

THE FINANCIAL CHALLENGE

It is immense. Venus resides in Colombia, where proper medical care requires expensive private insurance. The medical team has made it clear that this trip will be a significant financial challenge as it will open up independent expenses such as nurses, procedures, medications, among many other unexpected expenses.

Venus only has the financial support of Luchito's pension, Lina's father, to cover her basic expenses, in addition to her usual living expenses, and unfortunately, her resources are not even close to being sufficient. .

But this is not the only challenge, the emotional cost of this situation is immense, because Lina, her daughter, lives in Sweden with her husband and young children and does not have the necessary resources to join her mother at this time and we want to free them from the financial stress so they can focus on Venus recovery.

Hoy quiero contarles con un profundo sentimiento de urgencia y el corazón abrumado que nuestra querida amiga Lina y su familia están atravesando una situación angustiante. El 11 de septiembre, su madre, Venus, recibió un diagnóstico de cáncer de colon.

Esta noticia ha sacudido a la familia, especialmente porque no esperaban enfrentar esta difícil situación, y más aún, están lejos de casa. Por eso, necesitamos su ayuda para apoyarlos en este momento.

EL DIAGNÓSTICO DE VENUS

Tras una serie de pruebas, se le diagnosticó enfermedad renal crónica g3aa1. Sin embargo, lo que parecía ser una enfermedad degenerativa no mortal se complicó aún más, puesto que a esto se le suma un cáncer de colon (adenocarcinoma) con metástasis en el hígado. Venus necesita cirugía inmediata y quimioterapia, entre otros tratamientos.

EL DESAFÍO FINANCIERO

Es inmenso. Venus reside en Colombia, donde la atención médica adecuada requiere costosos seguros privados. El equipo médico ha dejado claro que este viaje será un reto económico significativo, pues abran gastos independientes como enfermeras, procedimientos, medicamentos, entre muchos otros inesperados.

Venus solo cuenta con el apoyo financiero de la pensión de Luchito, el padre de Lina, para cubrir los gastos básicos, además de sus gastos de vida habituales y, lamentablemente, sus recursos ni siquiera están cerca de ser suficientes.

Pero este no es el único desafío, el costo emocional de esta situación es enorme, porque Lina, su hija, vive en Suecia con su esposo e hijos pequeños y no tiene los recursos necesarios para unirse a su madre en este momento y queremos liberarlos del estrés financiero para que puedan centrarse en la recuperación de Venus.
